Chicago Aldermen Want More Power To Crack Down On 'Problem Bars'

The provision I'm watching most closely isn't the enforcement piece. It's the proposed 50% alcohol-revenue line between Consumption on Premises-Incidental Activity and Tavern licenses. Restaurants and venues with strong bar programs should review their sales mix and license class now, before it becomes a renewal problem.

Block Club Chicago reports that a proposed ordinance from Ald. Burnett and Ald. Cardona would give city officials more authority over bars and other licensees tied to repeated violence or nuisance complaints, including linking those problems to license renewal. The proposal would also require any business earning more than half its revenue from alcohol to hold a Tavern license instead of a Consumption on Premises-Incidental Activity license.
